1945-10-18 Beatrice Lemire from Ogunquit, ME, to Irene Lemire

Ogunquit Maine

Oct. 18, 1945

Dear Irene,

I just got through making 12 qts picallili and thought I would write. Haven't heard from you since I left always wondering how you and the children are I miss you all very much.
How are you and the children? I am planning on going down for their birthday. I will probably come on Fri or Sat and be two or three days with you as Roland needs me very much. We have been very busy. Today has been a little slow so had green tomatoes given to me and onions so I made picallili. Have written twice to Bob since getting back and am just sending him another letter.

How is he? As I've only rec. two letters all summer I often wonder why he doesn't write to me. Things go through my mind wondering if I say anything to make him angry or what the trouble is. Now you haven't written I am all mixed up inside wondering if you are angry. Well Irene you know as Marion is no hand for work. She is all right in the dining room and it takes the three of us to handle it and Roland is lost without me. The Sunday I was in Lowell they near went crazy as the other woman left. Her husband came home and that left only Marion and Rolly. They ran out of everything and Mrs. Swenson helped but she has her rooms to take care of I tell you it is a lot of work.

Now as Roland has taken me in as partnership that is the understanding I've had with him or I wouldn't stay as I am in no way fit to go out and work anywhere else. I am not getting any younger and I've got to have something coming in. I hated to leave you and the children but you know in this world you can't have all you want.

Please write to me and let me know how things are and how the children are. Have you your chairs all painted? It is getting very cold here but I don't get out very much but, Marion takes me out few afternoons so I don't get too lonesome. Roland has been hunting with Roger. He got a duck the other day but he shot it over the river and it fell in the water so it floated away. He was so mad.

Write when you can as I always welcome a letter from you. As it is getting near supper time I'll have to close now. Kiss the children for me and send all my love to you.

Love

Mother Lemire
