Dearest
Kitten
How often
have I told you that I loved you? It does not matter if you do not know,
because I am going to tell you again.
I love you
will all of my heart. The wonderful pain around my heart is nothing more than
my longing for you. How my arms ache to enfold you once more to my chest. My
lips want to whisper sweet nothings into your ears. Every nerve in my body is
yearning for you. If I do not get home very soon, I will be a very sad case.
You had
better keep praying for my furlough if you do not want me to get in that
condition. With both of us praying for the same thing, it just has to come
true.
Tomorrow is
pay day for us. I will have that much more money with which to go home on my
furlough with. Never mind about asking me how much money that I have, because I
will not tell you. I have enough so that money will not worry me.
Last night
after finishing your letter, we had quite a time. There was about six of us. We
had two cases of beer, two boxes of pretzels, and two boxes of crackers. We
went to bed at 11:00. About ten minutes after we got rid of the bottles, the
Officer on company duty came through the barracks. If he had caught us with the
bottles, we would have been in a mess. You see, we are not allowed to bring
bottles from the P.X. and if he had caught us, I would probably be doing K.P.
today.
Tonight I am
going to see "Princess ORourke". I understand that it is a very good
show.
This morning
I went to 9:00 Mass. Tomorrow morning I am in hopes of getting to Mass.
I told you
about my new job that I will be taking over in a few days in, last night's
letter.
Yesterday
morning we were going through the gas chamber with our gas masks to see if they
leaked. While waiting our turn my Lt came up to me and told me about the
transfer. He was not too happy about losing me, but was glad for me, and said
that I deserved it. He said that I should appreciate the fact that I was chosen
out of the whole company by the captain. The job is kind of plum and a lot of
men would have loved to have been given the job.
Later he
asked me about the man that was going to take my place. He is being transferred
from another platoon, because we have nobody in the platoon who could fill my
shoes, according to him. I never knew that he thought so highly of me.
Therefore I am justly proud.
It came as a
big surprise to me as I had net even been given a hint about the whole affair.
Yesterday
afternoon we went through the physical fitness course, the end of which is
finished off with a four mile hike with full field pack, rifle, metal helmet,
and full canteen of water.
I was dead
tired when I got back. After a few bottles of beer last night I began to feel
better.
My letter of
last night probably ended abruptly. Please forgive me if it did. Writing and
drinking do not mix. When I went to bed, I was just beginning to feel rosy.
Everybody
felt rosy, so "Rosy" went home. Laugh D--- it. It is a joke.
Well,
Beautiful, I still love & yearn for you. My heart is beating time, waiting
for the day when my eyes behold you again, then it will start beating like a
trip[p] hammer.
Give my regards
to everyone & kiss the babies for me.
Oceans of
Love & Whales of Kisses
Yours Only
Bob
