Dearest Kitten:
Did I ever tell you how much that [you are] really loved? I did? Well never the less I am going to tell you again, and again.
I love you so much that at times it is hard for me to breathe. My love for you fills me up so much that there is not enough room left in my chest to take a breath. It is a wonderful feeling, to love a person as much as I love you, and to know that my love for you is returned by you.
There should be a letter or two waiting for me tonight.
This morning I had to go to the dental clinic. They cleaned my teeth and filled one. My teeth are in perfect order now. The dental clinic is in the main camp and I had to dress in O.D.'s. They got through with me at 10:30 so I decided to gold-brick for the rest of the day. That is the reason that I am at the Service club. About the middle of this afternoon I will start back for my company area.
This was a good day to take off because there were two hikes scheduled for today.
There is something in the wind down here. Last night the furloughs were cancelled. About forty men were all set to leave and then to have that pulled on them is rather rough. They were very disgusted to say the least.
The rumors are flying thick and fast. When something happens, I will let you know. There are always rumors in the Army and I have reached the point where I listen to them and then just wait to see what will happen.
You have noticed by this time that I am all out of airmail stamps. Do not bother to send me any more as it costs too much over the period of a month and you have to be careful of your money.
We signed the payroll yesterday, rather last night. Another partial payment. $50.00 again.
The men and myself are having quite a bitching session. We are talking shop and giving everything a going over.
Day before yesterday the men had a chance to go to the inspector general. Some of his staff were in the area to listen to any bitches that the men might have. There were sixty two men from our company that went over. We are all hoping that it will do some good.
Well, Sweetheart, the men want to go over to the P.X. for something to eat.
Give my regards to everyone and kiss the babies for me.
I love you, my Beautiful Wife, and am always praying that the day is not too far distant when we will be together again for good.
Your Loving, Devoted, Faithful, & Affectionate Husband

Wednesday Dec. 15, 1943

Dearest Kitten:
I am in love with you and am so lonesome for you right now. How I wish that I were home so that I could help you put the babies to bed and then we could go into the setting room and snuggle up in the arm chair. While listening to the radio we could pitch a little woo. Wouldn't that be nice.
It has been two days since I have heard from you last, except for your beautiful Xmas card. I received one from my aunt and from Ray and Cle(?) yesterday. Today I received one from Estelle with two dollars in it.
Last night I sent all the cards that I had. By the time I got finished it was too late to write. Tonight we are restricted for some reason and I will have to rush this letter.
For the past two days it has been raining. It makes it rather miserable down here when it rains. There is a group of men going out tonight for their furloughs. How I wish that I was leaving with them. They will be home for Xmas and how I wish that I were one of the lucky ones.
We were just told to stand by so I had better close.
Sunday out on the golf course we took some pictures and as soon as the film is finished and developed, I will send you some prints.
Give my regards to everyone & kiss the babies for me.
I love you with every breath that I take and with each passing minute.
Your Loving, Devoted, & Faithful Husband

Dearest Kitten:
I have just gotten through washing the floor and before doing anything more, I am going to write to you. Today I hit the jackpot, three letters from the one person who I want to hear from and who I would love to be able to love.
You are my very life and I love you so. The day will come when I will have the pleasure of taking you in my arms forever. Pray hard that the day is not too far distant. How happy we will be when that day arrives.
Bobby
Your long letter came this noon and your letters of Wednesday & Thursday came tonight. At noon I started reading your letter and I almost made myself sick from laughing over Bobby trying to hit the pot. I was laughing so hard that the fellows wanted to know what was so funny. When I told them, did they get a kick out of it.
Do not bother sending me a thing. There is nothing that I need and it would only be a waste of money to send me anything. I can always get whatever I need down here. All that I want from you is a letter with all of your love sealed inside. Is that asking for too much?
It is about time that Rita got wise to herself. She has wasted a lot of time on Hank and he was never worth it. Do not tell her that, because, if he ever came back to her, it would be bad for us. Just keep your mouth shut about the whole affair.
You sure have been on the go lately. Even to dancing with a man. You sure are going to the dogs fast. What would your husband say if he knew?
I realize that there was nothing to it. Just so long as you do not get into the habit of going to night clubs and such. I know that your love for me would never let you do anything that would disgrace you.
When I get home you will have to introduce me to Helen's husband. We could have a good time "shooting the breeze" while you women folk could be gossiping. Let us hope that I will be lucky enough to get shipped back north so that I may be able to get home once in awhile.
Do you mean to tell me that Barby has enough hair to tie a bow in it. I bet she looks cute with it.
I wish it were possible for you to give me a big kiss and sit in my lap. To H-- with the paper. The way I feel now I could do a real good job of loving you.
Yes Barby is your girl. I love her very dearly but Bobby has a little niche in my heart simply because he is a boy and I understand boys better than girls. It is the same way with you.
Of course Barby is going to be a beauty. She is going to take after her mother so how can she help being a beauty.
Barby

I see that you are beginning to realize why I wanted you to stay home with the babies. It is your place and you should be able to get along O.K. financially. I will send all that I can each month as I realize that you will need it.
The training of your own children gives more pleasure than anything else in the world. It is beginning to show results.
Your unemployment insurance money will sure come in handy. Let us hope that by the time you have collected all your money, this mess will be nearly over. We hope!
A tree will cost quite a bit this year. It is up to you, but I think that it is foolish to buy one.
Well Beautiful, I have got to close.
I love you with all my heart and soul.
Give my regards to everyone and kiss the babies for me.

Sunday 12/12/43

Dearest Kitten:
I am dashing off a few words to tell you that I love you and am always thinking of you.
I have just returned from Tallahassee. Yesterday afternoon I went in for a few things and to play some golf.
There were two other golfers that I went in with and we had a very good time. Last night we did our shopping and went to bed early. We were up at 8:30 and went golfing after Mass. We were playing until 4:30 this afternoon. We went back to the Service Club to get a shave before getting something to eat and we meet Sgt. St. Jean and he was in with ten men who played basketball. We came back with them  They had made arrangements for steak dinners at a small town outside of camp, so we waited until we were almost in camp before we ate. Were we hungry. It was seven thirty before we had supper and we had had only breakfast all day long.
Did we dive into the chow - uh-huh. I had three bottles of beer and I am contented in a way. Nothing will ever make me really contented until I can be with you always. That day may not be too far distant, I hope & pray. Missing you so much is the only thing that bothers me about the Army.
How can I tell you, in a letter, about my love for you. A letter is so impersonal. The day will come when it will be possible for me to tell you that I love you every day. Pray that, that day is not too far distant.
Well Beautiful I have to close as it is getting late. Tomorrow I will probably hear from you and I will be able to answer your letter or letters. They usually come two at a time.
Give my regards to everyone & kiss the babies for me.
I love you, Sweetheart.
Your Loving, Devoted, & Faithful Husband

Friday, Dec. 10, 1943

Dearest Kitten:
I love you with all the affection that is in me. My love for you and your love for me in return is my stabilizer. In times of stress, my mind turns to you and I find that the power to go on is mainly due to your love for me. The only reason that I have the ability to stand being away from you, is the fact that our love for each other is so strong and lasting.
My health is in fine shape. I am feeling fine although I get tired at times.
We have been having wonderful weather lately, except that it gets foggy in the morning and stays foggy until the middle of the morning when the sun gets warm enough to burn it off. Since I returned from furlough I have not had to wear my field jacket for reveille.
Your letters of Monday & Tuesday came this noon and as usual I was happy to hear from you.
Enclosed you will find the picture that you wanted. The men sure got a kick out of it when I showed it to them. Last night, Sgt. St Jean and I went over to the show. We saw "There is Something about a Soldier". It was very much appreciated by the audience, as you can well imagine.
Ronayne is the fellow that is an Air Corps Cadet now. He left for school about two weeks before we left Washburn.
Why should I get mad at your going out once in awhile? You would go crazy if you stayed home all the time.
I know that you love me, Sweetheart. I am continually wondering how I was ever lucky enough to get such a Beautiful wife. You are my Beautiful wife and I love you so.
If you did not miss me, there would be something wrong. As long as you miss I will know that everything is O.K. and that you still love me.
Would you like to know what I really want for Xmas? Nothing would make me happier than to have a three day pass out of Camp Edwards. Would that be nice. There is nothing positive as to whether I will make it or not. Now you know what I want for Xmas. Just send me a card if I am still here. That is all that I want.
If Leo can stay out until June, the chances are that he will never be called. Army life would be pretty tough on him. It is no fun for anybody but it would be tougher on him because of his age and his weight. He sure would lose some of it though.
When I get home for good, you will probably hate to get up in the morning. I am glad that the babies let you sleep as late as they do.
Thank goodness that the babies are feeling better but you had better tell Mother to take better care of herself. Tell her that I will write to her Sunday.
Kitten, I have to quit as I have, as usual, a lot of things to do. I love you.
Give my regards to everyone and kiss the babies for me.
