Somewhere at Sea, April 27, 1944

Actual size: 4.25" wide x 5.25" high

Dearest Sweetheart
This being an anniversary of ours, I am writing to let you know that I am still very much in love with you. It does not seem like years that we have been married. It is more like weeks than anything else.
Let me know how this letter turns out. With my typing and the rocking of the boat, it will be a miracle if you will be able to decipher it.
Forgive me for not being able to send you anything but my love to you on this very important day. Remember when I told you that on this day of every year we would take the day off and have a good time by ourselves? Little did I dream that a war would separate us so quickly. With good luck and the grace of God our separation will only be for a very short duration.
Fortunately I am not and do not expect to get seasick. A great many of the men have been seasick but they will live I guess.
If you can, please send me some cigarette lighter flints. Some peanuts that are packed in cans would go very nicely too.
Your money reached me OK and thanks. It sure came in handy for I was so flat that it wasn't any fun. I would have like to have heard you and Eva arguing about sending your husbands some money. She sure is tight.
This letter is being typed in the troop commander's office where one of my men works. He has very kindly let me use the typewriter.
I ran into a boy from Lowell. His name is Carpenter. We had a nice long talk about home and everything.
Regards to all and kiss the babies for me.
Your Loving Husband
Bob
