Dearest
Kitten
I love you.
The more that I think and dream of you, the more my love for you deepens and
strengthens. How I wish that it were possible for me to take you in my arms and
show you how much you mean to me. I will be in heaven if I could only cuddle
you in my arms right now.
Your note of
Thursday was delivered this noon and I am utilizing part of my lunch time to
start this letter.
When it rains
down here it really rains. Just when the whistle blew for chow (dinner to you)
it started to rain. I never got so wet in thirty seconds before in my life. The
men claimed that it was not rain but just a heavy fog. We are all in hopes of
never seeing a rain down here.
We are now
waiting for supper. Maybe by midnight I will get finished writing this letter.
It is a tough
place to keep the barracks clean down here because of the sand. It is very fine
and we keep dragging it in on our feet.
We have been
busy all day cleaning up and getting settled.
We still have
outdoor latrines and a separate building for washing and bathing. Tonight we
drew, of all things, sheets and a pillow case.
By the way,
it is now quarter of eight in the evening.
Tonight we
saw the sun for the first time since landing here. I am in hopes of getting
down to see the gulf tonight if I can get everything ready in time.
I love you
Beautiful, and am wishing my time away until my next furlough, if we get one.
Sweetheart,
keep the home fires burning for me until I get home.
Regards to
all. Kiss the babies for me.
