Camp Gordon Johnston, Thursday, Sept 23, 1943

Thursday, Sept 23, 1943
Dearest Kitten
I love you Sweetheart, and miss you more and more with each passing day.
Your letters are being delivered regularly.  This noon I received your letter of Monday. You should receive my letter of Monday by tomorrow at the latest.
It makes me happy to know that you and mother are getting along so well, and that the babies are so well.
By this time you probably bought the kitchen set that you referred to in your letter of Saturday. You probably know whether you are going to get the apartment too.
Yesterday and today have been quite warm. The sun is very hot and the least exertion makes me perspire. Last night I was so tired, warm, and lazy that I did not write.
What did you mean by "no secrets" in your letter today? I hope that you are not thinking that I would start looking around for some "babes" down here. If you are, then forget it. We are situated in the wilds of Florida and it is 60 miles to the nearest city, which is Tallahassee.
Camp GordonJohnston is a hell-u-va big camp. It is 12 miles from where I am to the Service Club and about 15 miles to the nearest town who's sole claim is that there is one liquor store there.
Since landing here, I have not been out of the Regimental area.
Tonight I have hopes of getting to see a show. We have an open air theatre down here but it cost 15¢.
A few of the men have gone in to the Service Club and they say that there is a photo studio and the price for 1/2 dozen 8 x 6 is $11.00 with one colored one. When we get paid I may get up enough courage to dress up and have some taken.
Would you like that?
We are not getting paid until the fifth of next month, so if your check is late in coming the first of next month you will know that it was due to our moving.
It is very odd to be living in barracks again after being in tents for so long.
Roland is sure taking a big step by going into the Sea Bees. Is he getting a rating? He should, with all the experience that he has as a cook.
If you see him, tell him for me that if he wants to get ahead, the best thing for him to do is show that he can handle men and not how much work he himself can do.
Well, Beautiful, I want to write to Mother so I will close.
I love you so much that at times my whole being aches for you.
Give my regards to all & kiss the babies for me.
Your Loving, Devoted, & Faithful Husband
Bob
